For Mom

My name is Kelley, and I have created this webpage for my mom, Vickie (pictured left).  She has recently taken ill, and been refused service by the only 2 hospitals in Texas (our home state) that are able to perform the procedures she needs to save her life.  Explore the site to read her story, view updates, submit comments, and much more.  You may even be able to help us out!  After you check out the site, feel free to give the address to your friends, so they can help too.  Also, if you or anyone you know has a medical or insurance "horror story" send me an e-mail and let me know about it.  (Check out "Other People's Stories")  Any comments, suggestions, opportunities, and prayers are greatly appreciated.  Thank you so much for visiting our site!!

What's going on now....

December 5, 2004

I would like to thank EVERYONE for your support, love and prayers.  Mom had the surgery, and though her head still hurts (because it's healing) the headaches are growing fewer and farther between each day.  She's lost some vision in her right eye, and the doctors aren't sure if that will correct itself or not, but she's been going to the eye doctor on a regular basis so they can moniter the progress.  At this point, I'm sure all would agree that the benefits outweigh the consequences this time!  Again, thank you all for everything that you have done for mom, and also for your continued friendship and support.

Yet again I have neglected the web site, however with good reason this time.  We have been trying to get things together for Mom's surgery... That's right, I said SURGERY!!  5:30 am October 29, 2004... tomorrow.  Pray like crazy folks, cause I know that's how God figured out that he can't take her away from us yet.  Thanks to all, and lots of love from all of us!!

Again, I apologize that I have not kept you all more informed on the progress, but there has not been any until very recently.  Mom finally got approved for county financial aid and left for Dallas this morning for a consultation and tests, and hopefully to schedule the surgery. Thank you so much for all the prayers and encouraging words.  I hope things are well for all and I will update again as soon as I hear anything.  God Bless!

August 7, 2004

I am VERY SORRY I have not been here to update the website as often as I wanted to, I have been working out of town for the past 2 weeks and just got home last night.  I will be leaving out again Sunday for 1 more week at the current job site, then I will find out where I go from there.  Unfortunately I have no access to a computer while I am working at this job site, so I am only able to update and check messages when I am home.  But I'm doing the best I can.  Another unfortunate note, Mom had to visit the local emergency room again, it was Friday, July 30 2004.  Severe headache, this time they gave her some crazy medicine that made her ping off the walls!  The doctor didn't even notice the side effect, and sent her home about 10 minutes after giving it to her.  Again, she was told only to follow up in Galveston.  I will keep the updates current as best as I can, and thanks again for all of your love and support.

July 13, 2004

I apologize for not updating sooner, I have been trying to get ready to start my new job, I leave this week.  Mom is home, after a lengthy ordeal in Galveston, there are details (in her own words) in the "Her Story" tab.  Please continue to give us ideas as to where we may be able to turn.  Also, e-mail me YOUR story, so that we may post it on this site (in the "Other People's Story" tab) and let the world know just how bad the system is, and that something really does NEED to be done about it.  Thank you all, once again, for all of your prayers and support.  God Bless!

FYI:

***Mom is currently FINALLY getting some help.  After fighting for 7 months, we are now at the hardest part.  The surgery is going to come soon and we will still need all of your prayers, it's very risky.  Thank you all so much for being great friends for Mom. (10/13/2004)

***Ok, so Mom DIDN'T get what she needed.  As a matter of fact, she got exactly the opposite, treated badly again and then sent home with no offer of new hope.  Now it has to be our turn.  We must all pull together, put heads together, get some ideas rolling...  I need websites, phone numbers, email addresses, snail mail addresses, anything you can think of that may provide any assistance at all.

I still plan to work against the hospital (now hospitalS) that turned my mother away, AFTER telling her she needs to have surgery very soon.  They were very rude, not only to her, but to me and my dad and my sister as well.  They were very unprofessional with their choice of words, and they treated her like she was a child that didn't know any better.  People don't deserve to be treated badly, especially when they are ill!

I hope to continue to recieve your stories, so that I may post them here (under "Other People's Stories" tab) and maybe together we can make a big enough impact to change something.  So don't give up, becuase I don't plan to!  Also, I recently found out that, if we are able to get 500 different people to sign the guestbook, we can present the site to congress for review, to see what can be done about our situation (and others like ours!), so PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE tell everyone you know about the site, tell them to sign the guestbook if they don't have any ideas (and even if they do...lol) cause that will help, too!
